Event on 2012-05-22 20:00:00
With special Guest Beard Bobby Bunch. in advance, at venue DOS. The BEARDS OF COMEDY tour is quickly becoming one of the hottest shows in the U.S, showcasing four of the funniest, freshest and bearded faces in comedy. Andy Sandford (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, 2012 Bridgetown Comedy Festival), Joe Zimmerman (Rooftop Comedy's Golden Shingle Award nominee), TJ Young (Adult Swim's Squidbillies) and Dave Stone (2012 CMT Next Big Comic Semifinalist) deliver an original brand of humor that's deeply rooted in stand-up and lightly blended with avant-garde elements of music, sketch and improv. Offering a smart, quirky and refreshing twist on a traditional comedy show, the Beards frequently tour the country and currently host the popular Beards & Friends show at New York City's The Creek and the Cave. Offstage, short films including "The Fan," "Help," and "Basketball" have amassed thousands of hits, with "Breakfast Banditos" even receiving feature placement on the front page of FunnyOrDie.com. In July 2009, the Beards recorded Comedy for People for Rooftop Comedy Records; it continues to receive frequent airplay on SiriusXM Radio. Most recently they made their debut on The Bob & Tom Show and released second album Cardio Mix November 22 on Comedy Central Records. Inishbofin Island Walking Festival
Event on 2012-05-25 00:00:00
The inaugural Inishbofin Island Walking Festival takes place from the 25th-27th May, on the lovely island of Inishbofin. It will be a celebration of walking featuring the three new looped walks on the island – Middlequarter Loop, Clooonamore Loop and Westquarter Loop. A wine reception will take place on Friday, 25th May, at 21.30 at the Inishbofin Community Centre, with screening of 'Welcome to Inishbofin' documentary. The morning walk will begin at 10.30 on Saturday morning on the Westquarter Loop; Grade: Medium; Distance: 8km (2.5-3 hours). The Westquarter Loop takes in some of the most stunning Atlantic coast scenery in Connemara offering views of the island's blow holes and sea arch, sea stags where the island seal colony can be seen, the Dún More Cliffs and Iron Age promontory fort ruins, picturesque Trá Gheal beacn and famine road. The track winds over grass paths, turf banks and shingle beach pebbles. The walk also affords views of Inishturk Island. The afternoon walk begins at 15.30: Middlequarter Loop; Grade: Moderate; Distance: 5km (1.5-2 hours). This walk runs over Inishbofin's second highest point which, on a clear day, offers panoramic views of Achill Island's mountains, Inishturk and Clare Island, the Twelve Bens, Maumturks and Croagh Patrick; the track takes in Inishbofin's historic and varied iron and bronze age landscapes with mill stones, partitions and evidence of round-stone houses. The Sunday Morning Walk begins at 11.00: Cloonmore Loop; Grade: Moderate; Distance: 8.5km (3-3.5 hours). The Cloonamore Loop, which runs over green roads, bog roads and laneways, runs along the beautiful east end beach and St Colman's 14th century chapel and church lough, a fertile valley which supports reed beds and other vegetation which, in turn, provide cover, food and nest sites for a wide variety of birds. Walks will be led by qualified walking guides. Each guided walk costs €10, and a 'Weekend Walking Pass' for all three can be booked for €20. All walks will commence from the Inishbofin Community Centre. Walkers are advised to bring rainproof clothing and suitable footwear.
